Abraham Darby and the Gorge

If this had been my question (which it wasn't), I would have been rather confused about what answer was required – even though I learnt about the iron bridge at primary school and have been there several times. Other answers that I thought might have been expected were "the Severn Gorge", or even "Coalbrookdale".

I do know Coalbrookdale is a village and not a gorge, and it does appear that the area is now known as Ironbridge Gorge. But it obviously wasn't called that before Darby built the bridge.

Wikipedia tells us that the gorge was "originally called the Severn Gorge", so I would suggest that this, even if not "Coalbrookdale", should have been allowed as an alternative answer.

Even better, the confusion could have been avoided altogether by asking something like "What name was given to the village that grew up around the bridge that was made from parts cast in Abraham Darby's furnace?"
